The Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 represents a quantum leap over the Zer0.5 with superior upper protection and cushioning performance, making it one of the best Jordan Brand models this year. However, comfort is limited by width issues and outsole durability needs improvement, best suited for standard-width-footed indoor players.
The upper features rich layering with multiple materials (textiles, suede, genuine leather, synthetics) and excellent tear-stop technology that effectively prevents tear propagation, delivering outstanding durability and protection.
The midsole cushioning is exceptional with a thick Zoom Air unit paired with responsive foam, providing excellent bounce. Jump test metrics (19.5cm approach and 34.5cm standing) rank among the best of the year.
The upper is excessively thick and complex, causing protruding leg lacing to compress the lateral sural nerve, leading to numbness on wide feet and requiring an extended break-in period.
Outsole durability is mediocre; rubber thickness is only 14.5mm with tab-style design exposed to elements. Traction degrades rapidly after 5-10 minutes of heating on indoor courts, and wears out too quickly on outdoor surfaces.
Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 is a high-performance basketball shoe designed for Westbrook with upgraded lightweight construction, cushioning, and protective support, combining excellent court performance with fashionable design
Lighter weight compared to Why Not Zer0.4 (415g vs 417g), offering improved comfort and agility
Features Zoom Air cushioning and XDR durable rubber sole with TPU support components for excellent shock absorption and ankle injury prevention
Upper material picks up dirt easily and requires regular cleaning despite good breathability
Single-layer Zoom Air cushioning may provide less rebound range compared to the dual-stacked design of Why Not Zer0.4
The Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 SE is an optimized comfort variant of the third generation, offering improved fit for wider feet through redesigned lacing, better materials, and removed velcro, though performance upgrades remain minimal
Wider fit with removed velcro strap makes it more comfortable for users with broader feet
Upgraded lacing system with dynamic fly-line design and reinforced heel pull tab improves ankle support and lockdown
Limited performance improvements compared to the original version, primarily focusing on comfort adjustments
Removal of the half-bootie and dynamic shell design from the original may disappoint some users who preferred the original support structure

Released in 2018, Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 arrived in Russell Westbrook's signature line at its debut, when Jordan Brand wanted a shoe that matched Westbrook's violent pace and brute-force cuts. The design intent centered on delivering a bold first signature with full-length cushioning, strong containment, and a visibly aggressive support package. Notable versions or talking points included the huge strap, strong team/NCAA visibility, and instant comparisons with other first signatures of the era. In community memory, the shoe is usually remembered for good cushion and excellent support, though opinions on traction and the bulky strap were mixed. It also helps mark a specific turning point inside that line, because the shoe shows what the brand prioritized at that moment rather than simply copying the previous release.
