Context
Story & provenance
Start of the Modern Gelhoop Era
Gelhoop V12, released in 2019, represents the beginning of the modern Flytefoam-era Gelhoops. Prior generations had used older Asics midsole technologies; V12 standardized the Flytefoam + Rearfoot GEL combination that every subsequent generation through V17 has built on. It set the visual template for the current series' wide stability-focused silhouette. As the oldest of the 'modern' Gelhoops, V12 is less commonly recommended today 鈥 its foam tuning feels firmer and less refined than later generations. But in terms of historical significance within the Asics hoop community, V12 is the point where the Gelhoop line became the Japan-market workhorse it is today. Original releases are now collector curiosities more than active hoop picks.
